PARLIER – Planning ahead is always best, and for the Parlier City Council, one way the city can do that is with the formation of a planning commission.
After a presentation from City Planner Jeff O’Neal at its Feb. 5 meeting, the Parlier City Council gave staff direction to look into the establishment of a planning commission through a city ordinance. O’Neal explained the legal basis for local planning commissions under state law and discussed some of the pros and cons of having one in Parlier.
“A planning commission typically takes on tasks to keep them off of the city council agendas so that the city council can focus on policy decisions, budgets and that sort of thing,” O’Neal said. “Those planning type decisions stay at a lower level, and they don’t make agendas blow up.”…
