A California man arrested in connection with the fatal beating of a woman earlier this month once allegedly told police he was “not fit for society” after an earlier violent crime.
Jeffrey McMaster Jr., 44, was arrested in connection with the Feb. 2 homicide in Oakland’s Hoover-Foster neighborhood, the Oakland Police Department said in a release.
Officers responded to the San Pablo Avenue location around 11 a.m. and discovered Marshall with major trauma to the head, according to KRON4 and Bay Area News Group. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alleged beating was captured on security video, and McMaster was found with blood on his hands after walking back to his unit, according to Bay Area News Group and KTVU, citing police. The outlets reported that he also lived at the residential hotel.
McMaster was convicted in 2009 of assault with intent to commit rape and is required to register as a sex offender, according to court records viewed by PEOPLE and California’s Megan’s Law database. The registry lists his last reported address on San Pablo Avenue in Oakland…
