SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Southaven residents voiced their concerns at a public hearing over Elon Musk’s company xAI’s request to build and operate 41 natural gas turbines in a residential area.
The public hearing held by members of the Miss. Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), initially planned for the Southaven library, was moved to a larger venue at Northwest Miss. Community College where several hundred people filled the Ranger Center.
Residents said they are anxious to express their concerns over potential health and safety issues posed by xAI in their own backyards.
“If the permits have already been skated around, are they going to be skated around again?,” asked Angie Davis, from Southaven. “There’s a lot of dangerous things that can happen from the emissions and I’m hoping that going forward we’re going to see some safer actions taken. Some assurances that our water is safe and our air is safe.”…
