In an unusual move against Texas plastic production, Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Dow and fellow petrochemical giant Braskem last week, citing evidence that the companies illegally dumped plastic pellets and other pollutants into state waterways.
The lawsuit listed years of findings from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality investigators that showed outflows from the companies’ plant near Corpus Christi were thick with nurdles, the lentil-sized pieces of plastic derived from fossil fuels that serve as raw materials for most finished plastic products.
