New Potato Joint: Replaces Potato Factory in Amarillo

It’s been about six months in Amarillo since the Potato Factory on Western Street closed down. The closing was not something expected early last year, which was before there was a lot of drama involving cameras in the bathroom.

A New Chapter: Moving Past the Potato Factory Drama

There is no way to recover the business from that, even when they tried to say they were under new owners. They just couldn’t and didn’t stay open. The building has sat empty since then.

Recently, there were some trucks seen on the property, and now there is a banner up letting us know that a new place is moving in. If you’ve missed stopping in for your favorite spud, you’re in luck.

The banner simply says “Jacket Potato Coming Soon” along with their website. I mean, if you are going for the people who miss the good ol’ potatoes served in that location, you hit the jackpot.

According to their site, they explained what a jacket potato actually is:

In England, a baked potato is called a jacket potato — named for the crispy, crackling skin that wraps around the fluffy interior like a little jacket. It’s been a beloved street food across Britain for over 200 years.

We loved that name. But our baked potato? It’s all Texas.
