Within hours of returning from Mardi Gras break, students at Westdale Middle School in Baton Rouge were thrown in the dark Wednesday when a transformer in the gym blew and cut power to the entire school.
The school sent out a message to parents at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday informing them of the outage and all students and staff were safe. School continued Wednesday, including serving lunch, though some parents came and picked up their children.
Entergy, firefighters and school maintenance workers spent the day trying to fix the outage. School officials said Wednesday afternoon that they were still waiting on word from Entergy as to when power could be restored…
