OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – While streetcar construction empties restaurants, one UNO program is filling them back up, hundreds of students at a time.
The University of Nebraska Omaha’s Discover with Durango program is focusing all student nights out this semester on businesses along the streetcar route, bringing relief to establishments struggling with construction-related foot traffic losses.
“Last fall, I saw a lot in the news about some of the businesses struggling. It was everywhere and I kind of thought, UNO is such an important part of the community, we do a lot with Omaha. How can we leverage some of the programming we do to help some of these businesses,” said Bill Pickett, UNO Director of Spirit and Tradition.
