GILA BEND, AZ (AZFamily) — Federal investigators released a new report Wednesday about a deadly plane crash that found that part of the engine failed and the parachute system didn’t deploy correctly.
The preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board said the pilot and passenger in a Tarragon airplane took off from Chandler’s Stellar Airport around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, then briefly landed at the Gila Bend Municipal Airport before taking off again.
The plane headed east for 14 miles, then flew about a mile before the recorded data ended near Shawmut, the report said.
