GRPS board appoints new trustee to fill vacancy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Board of Education has voted on a new trustee.

Erika VanDyke was chosen Wednesday night by the board to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former Trustee Arick Davis. She will take the oath of office on Feb. 23 and serve in the role until Dec. 31. A candidate elected in November will take the role for the remaining two years of the term, Grand Rapids Public Schools said.

VanDyke was one of 20 candidates who applied to fill the vacancy and then chosen from four final-round candidates.
