Mercy House planning to build new homeless shelter in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – As the River Region’s homeless population grows, so does the need for a new shelter.

The Salvation Army closed the area’s largest shelter years ago to make room for the Montgomery Whitewater project, and it still hasn’t found a new location.

A new local non-profit, Mercy House, has furthered the conversation by presenting plans to operate its own shelter to the Montgomery County Commission on Tuesday…
