PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Pinellas County Schools will start charging families to put their students in sports programs in the coming school year.
“We heard loudly that our families want us to offer more opportunities for our kids, more student experiences,” said Pinellas County Schools Athletic Director Marc Allison.

Allison said using fees to help, they plan to add high school boys’ volleyball, middle school boys and girls’ soccer, high school competition cheer, and they’ll open volleyball up to 6th, 7th and 9th grade girls. He said they’re hoping to be competitive with local private schools.
“We have a great opportunity to influence additional students,” Allison said. “We know that at a high level of engagement, kids that are invested in their schools do better academically and they stay.”…
