A fast-moving wildfire west of Amarillo had burned about 12,000 acres and remained about 10% contained Wednesday, forcing evacuations in western Potter County as crews from across Texas worked to slow its spread.
The Lavender Fire near the Valle de Oro area continued to move rapidly in some locations despite a large multi-agency response, said Max Dunlap, director of the City of Amarillo Office of Emergency Management.
“We have a lot of resources on the ground, including aircraft,” Dunlap said. “It is still very much an active fire, moving very rapidly in areas.”…
