South Side Stab Slay Suspect Nabbed After Casino Confession

A Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old on the South Side last summer, authorities said, after his arrest this week across state lines in Indiana.

Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Juan Osorio. Chicago officers allege he repeatedly stabbed the victim in late August on the 900 block of West 78th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, where the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Osorio was taken into custody Monday in South Bend, Indiana, and has been charged with first-degree murder. A detention hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, the station reports.

Arrest at Four Winds Casino

Authorities in Indiana say the break in the case came in an unusual way: Osorio allegedly walked up to security staff at Four Winds Casino in South Bend and said he wanted to confess. Pokagon tribal police later found a backpack outside the casino holding clothing stained with blood, according to ABC57.

While in custody, Osorio allegedly damaged property and threatened officers, and St. Joseph County prosecutors have charged him locally with intimidation and criminal mischief, the outlet reports.
