Alvaro Avila becomes first ever Socorro swimmer to qualify for state

SOCORRO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Alvaro Avila won the 50-meter freestyle at the UIL Regional Championships with a blazing time of 20.91 seconds, punching his ticket to this week’s UIL State Meet.

In the process, he became the first swimmer in Socorro High School history to qualify for the state championships.

“It means a lot to qualify for state,” Avila said. “Being the first from Socorro, it really does set the tone for the school.”…
