BUFFALO, N.Y. — A snowmobiler was rescued in Chautauqua County after falling through ice Wednesday morning.
According to the Chautauqua Fire Department, shortly before 9pm, firefighters were dispatched after receiving a report of someone swimming in the water after their snowmobile fell through the ice. The driver was reportedly able to be swim to shore, but became trapped on a wooded peninsula. Their phone was wet and died shortly after placing the 911 call.
Firefighters say the driver became disoriented on the lake at night and drove in the wrong direction and ended up in an area of water flow, where the ice is thinner. The snowmobile eventually broke through and sank, forcing the driver to swim in freezing water…
