When people hear police sirens and see men and women in uniform, their first instinct is to think something is wrong. But at its annual awards ceremony in February, the Sagamore Hills Police Department flipped the script by highlighting the positive work officers do in the community.
Police Chief David Hayes said supervisors in the department choose the recipients of the Employee of the Year Award and the Lifesaving Award in December, after reviewing officers’ work. Hayes created the Employee of the Year award 18 years ago.
This year’s top employee is Det. Victoria Miavitz, who has earned the title twice. Asst. Chief Det. Dan Rice said she has shown “outstanding dedication, exceptional investigative skills and unwavering professionalism throughout the year.”…
