Mobile City Council moves money to pay for cruise terminal improvements

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Despite reservations from a councilman, the City Council on Wednesday voted to move $2 million to a capital fund to pay for improvements at the Alabama Cruise Terminal.

The city plans to award a contract soon for new fenders to protect the cruise ship from bumping up against the dock when it is in port. It is an unbudgeted expense that will be paid for from money left over from last year’s budget.

Councilman Ben Reynolds voted with the rest of his colleagues, but he questioned why other funding sources couldn’t be used. He suggested revenue from parking fees at the terminal or tourism-related funds…
