PENFIELD, N.Y. — Local contractors are facing challenges due to a salt shortage during the current weather conditions. News10NBC’s Adelisa Badzic reported from Penfield after speaking with Scott Cialini, owner of Rochester Lawn Care, about the impact.
“The price of rock salt is hurting the most,” Cialini said. He explained that while his supplier, T.J. Allen, has kept him informed about possible shipments, others are not as fortunate. “Milton rents, they have salt, and they put a text out. No more salt for the year. Done,” Cialini said. “So any contractor that got it from there, I don’t know what they’re going to be doing, but I just know that there are definitely limited supplies, and it’s making it really tough for the contractors.”
Cialini shared that he receives his salt from T.J. Allen, which sources it locally and sometimes from overseas. “They were pretty sure we would have salt all year. But because of the cold weather, the Hudson froze over. Some of the ships couldn’t get in, so there was a delay,” he said. “So as of today, I was pretty low. But I got a tractor trailer load which made me happy with all this ice coming.”…
