Boston City Council blocks resolution backing Wu’s executive order

Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn blocked a resolution endorsing Mayor Michelle Wu’s executive order prohibiting federal immigration enforcement from staging operations on city property during the city council’s Feb. 11 meeting.

The nonbinding resolution, brought forth by City Councilor Henry Santana, was blocked after Flynn requested a hearing to learn directly from city departments mentioned in the order before endorsing it.

“I would like to know more about it, and I’m respectfully asking [Santana] if he would consider having a hearing so I can be more informed before I vote,” Flynn said.

Santana responded by saying, “If he would like a hearing, I would respectfully ask him to block the resolution.”…
