City of Omaha preparing for winter weather with full snow removal crews

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The City of Omaha is preparing for winter weather hitting the area Thursday afternoon and evening.

In a release sent shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday, Mayor John Ewing Jr. shared that Omaha Public Works plans to have:

  • Full crews available for the duration of the storm and overnight to plow and treat all roadways
  • Residential contractor crews begin Thursday night with the start time call made soon

According to the release, city officials expect that major and secondary streets will be ready “by the morning rush hour Friday.” They anticipate most neighborhoods will be cleared by mid-morning Friday.

TRAVEL CONDITIONS

Drivers in the Omaha metro should expect difficult travel and visibility issues in the Thursday evening commute.

“Practice discretion when deciding whether to drive, and practice safety when behind the wheel,” Mayor Ewing said in the release Thursday. “Go slower than usual, give yourself plenty of time and give city plows ample room to clear streets.”…
