Chandler girl, 12, writes her way to a novel

What started out as a classroom project at Basha Elementary School is now a book anyone can purchase on Amazon.

Chandler resident Melissa Costa, 12, said she had always wanted to write a book when the teacher assigned her class an interesting project, basically telling students to pick something they like and work on it for the entire year.

“So then I started writing a short story for my interest project, and once I was writing, I realized that it could turn into an actual book,” Melissa said. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s really cool.’”…
