The attorney defending Newberg resident Vasiliy Barbiyeru Jr. has alerted the court that her client may well have been mentally unstable when he attacked his father with a knife in December.
In mid-January, defense counsel Alicia Eagan filed a motion alerting the court and prosecutor Gregory Jones of her “intent to rely on and introduce evidence of the affirmative defense of guilty except for insanity … or partial responsibility or diminished capacity.”
