WSU to close Yakima College of Nursing, sending students to Tri-Cities and Spokane

YAKIMA, Wash. – Nursing students at Washington State University’s College of Nursing in Yakima will have to finish their programs in the Tri-Cities or Spokane after the end of the current semester, as WSU is closing the program at the Yakima campus.

On February 6, WSU announced that its College of Nursing would transition its Yakima-based students to the WSU Tri-Cities and Spokane campuses starting at the end of the spring 2026 semester. This represents an effective closure of education programs at the College of Nursing in Yakima. WSU claimed that 28 students in Yakima will have to choose where to continue their education.

“This difficult decision reflects our commitment to strengthening the region’s nursing workforce while being responsible stewards of limited resources. By focusing our efforts, we are safeguarding the long‑term excellence of WSU’s nursing program, the largest producer of registered nurses in Washington” said Anne Mason, interim dean for the College of Nursing, in a written statement…
