Buffalo nearing agreement towards using hot patches to fix potholes

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — In a special edition of Buffalo Brief on WIVB+, Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan recently sat down for an extended interview with anchors Kelsey Anderson and Dave Greber.

The interview touched on several key issues and a variety of topics as Ryan begins his work as the city’s mayor. The entire interview can be seen in the video player above.

The budget deficit

Ryan recently traveled to Albany to ask lawmakers for help in stabilizing the city’s budget. Ryan has said that the city has a revenue problem following a generation of “fiscal mismanagement,” and he said on Buffalo Brief that the budget he is inheriting “has between a $20 million and $40 million hole in it.”

“The city of Buffalo has been carrying a structural deficit of over $60 million for a good number of years, and they’ve been paying it by different ways to get around it, but there’s no other ways to get around it now,” Ryan said. “I have zero dollars of unassigned fund balancing … This is why we need help to get out of this current year as we’re building our budget for 26-27.”…
