A visit to the hospital generally means you’re in need of serious medical care. That’s why you need to make sure you pick the right one.

Three weeks ago, Healthgrades released its list of the top 50, top 100, and top 250 hospitals in the nation. It’s based on more than 45 million Medicare medical claims from 4,500 hospitals nationwide for the most recent three-year period available. The group then rates hospitals on 31 condition and procedure groups, from heart attacks to total knee replacements, with a focus on clinical outcomes.

Georgia hospitals among the 50 best in the nation

Those in the top 50 recognize the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. Georgia facilities that made the cut include Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta.

Is Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital a good hospital?

Healthgrades gave Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital its nuerosciences excellence, outpatient orthopedic surgery excellence, stroke care excellence, and critical care excellence awards. It was also ranked in the top 100 hospitals for:

  • Gastrointestinal care
  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Outpatient joint replacement
  • Pulmonary care
  • Stroke care
