Officer avoids discipline after being caught on camera speeding

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – FOX Carolina Investigates is pushing for answers after a Greenville police officer is caught on camera speeding. There were no lights, no sirens and no discipline for the officer.

A dash camera captured by a driver shows the Greenville officer racing down Highway 123 in Easley. The speedometer is not visible in the video but a speed tracker on the video appears to show the officer going more than 80 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone back in October. The officer was not responding to an emergency or chasing a suspect at the time. A concerned driver recorded the video while desperately trying to flag down the officer, pleading “Slow down! The speed limit’s 45.”

According to South Carolina law, driving more than 35 miles over the speed limit is considered reckless driving — punishable by a fine of $75 to $200 or up to 30 days in jail. Yet this officer was never disciplined…
