‘There’s no other fix. Those kids need a new school’ | Powell community members frustrated over proposed school rezoning plan

POWELL, Tenn. — Powell community members gathered Thursday evening to learn more about the proposed rezoning plan. School officials presented three scenarios that would send at least 200 students to Amherst, Brickey McCloud, and/or Karns Elementary Schools. They said there are approximately 1,130 available seats in the nearby schools.

People in the audience said they thought other considerations would be presented. Leaders said rezoning is the only option. Officials said it is the quickest, most cost-effective option and would strengthen school feeder patterns.
