Woman Accused of Pretending She’s From Child Protective Services to Kidnap Child From Babysitter

A Florida woman has been accused of pretending to be a child protective services employee in an attempt to kidnap a 9-year-old boy from his babysitter’s home.

Nicole Terry Thomas, 56, is now facing multiple charges, including four counts of attempted kidnapping, after she continued to falsely insist that she represented child protective services, even calling 911 to request a deputy to help her remove the child—and three others at the residence—from the sitter’s home, according to a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

“In what was probably the only smart thing she said or did that afternoon, Nicole Thomas admitted to detectives that she should have known better,” Sheriff Grady Judd said of her subsequent arrest. “She impersonated a government employee, threatened to take four children, and even called 911 to try to get a deputy to help her pull it off. I’d say she didn’t clearly think that one through.”

Thomas reportedly called 911 herself at 3:22 p.m. on Feb. 13 to claim that she was with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and was requesting law enforcement assistance in removing a 9-year-old child from the home, telling authorities that “people are interfering with the investigation,” according to an arrest affidavit provided to Oxygen.com
