West Memphis widow loses life savings to tech support scam

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — An 81-year-old West Memphis widow lost her life savings after scammers convinced her they could protect her money from hackers on her computer.

Laura McFarling wired $37,600 to criminals who posed as Microsoft technical support and bank representatives in what experts call a multi-million-dollar tech support scam targeting seniors.

“Right now, since I’m walking in these shoes that I’ve never walked before, I want to help people,” McFarling said.
