Murfreesboro continues effort to support alternative transportation options in community

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — An area in Rutherford County is getting some transportation upgrades.

Murfreesboro is stepping into phase two of its walkability project after receiving new federal and state funding. New sidewalks are being added from Middle Tennessee Boulevard to Minerva Drive.

The project is broken up into two phases. The first phase included placing sidewalks from Broad Street to Middle Tennessee Boulevard, which was completed in 2022. Phase two will include work from Middle Tennessee Boulevard to Minerva Drive.

Murfreesboro Public Works Inspector, Spencer Perry, said they’ve already filled in most of the dirt. Now crews will come in, put in sidewalks on both sides near Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and install new signals at Minerva Drive. They’re also going to upgrade their drainage infrastructure all the way down. Once the sidewalks are added, ADA infrastructure like ramps and crosswalks are in the works of being constructed…
