PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Additional details have emerged from court documents pertaining to a barricade incident in Portsmouth where a 33-year-old man shot at officers attempting to serve a warrant out of Virginia Beach Wednesday afternoon.
Barricade situation in Portsmouth ends with arrest
Homeland Security and Virginia State Police were at an apartment in Harbor Vista, located in the 800 block of Crawford Street, at approximately 9:55 a.m. to execute a search warrant.
Court documents stated the suspect, identified as Charles R. Nichols III, fired an AR-15 pistol three times after troopers announced themselves and made a forced entry into the apartment. The first shot was made from his bedroom door towards the entryway of his apartment while the subsequent shots were made through his bedroom wall towards his living room. Police did not return fire but retreated from the apartment to the connecting hallway.
The documents added the rounds penetrated the adjacent apartment to him which was occupied by two people during the incident.
Following several hours of commands to exit the apartment with his hands raised, Nichols eventually complied. Documents revealed state police then entered the apartment and discovered five firearms, including three semi-automatic pistols and two AR-15 pistols…
