Lafayette Lunchtime Bank Heist Scare Ends With Two in Cuffs

A midday emergency alert jolted downtown Lafayette yesterday after an attempted bank robbery prompted police to lock down several central streets and launch a quick search that ended with two people detained.

Officers warned residents to steer clear of Moraga Road, Brook Street and Lafayette Circle while they combed the area for suspects. Authorities later said the two people detained were believed to be connected to a separate robbery reported in nearby Alamo.

The Lafayette Police Department issued its first alert at about 2:20 p.m., asking people to avoid the Moraga Road and Brook Street corridor.
