Roanoke focus group looks for entertainment district options

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A Roanoke focus group exploring alternatives for generating revenue around the Berglund Center had its second meeting set for Thursday night. This comes after Mayor Joe Cobb said he does not anticipate progress this year on a proposed casino.

The entertainment district focus group, led by City Council Member Phazhon Nash. The group includes city residents, business owners, and leaders from the Berglund Center and the Roanoke Railyard Dawgs.

Late last year, Roanoke announced it was exploring the possibility of putting a casino in the Berglund Center. The idea faced opposition from many people, including state lawmakers who would have to approve the project…
