Driver involved in Des Moines crash that snapped a power pole dies

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says the driver involved in a Thursday morning accident that snapped a power pole has died.

Des Moines Police say the crash occurred just after 6 a.m. in the 3300 block of E. 7th Street when a driver lost control of his truck and hit a utility pole, fence, and tree before coming to a stop against a home.

The power pole was snapped off, with a portion of the pole hanging from the wires. A portion of E. Ovid Avenue was closed for several hours while the scene was processed, and MidAmerican Energy made repairs to the utility pole.
