Severe weather possible in Mississippi Saturday, cold temps to return

On the heels of a dangerous weather system that passed through Mississippi on Feb. 14-15, another round of potentially severe weather is forecast for the state this weekend followed by plummeting temperatures.

Last weekend’s storms produced 12 documented tornadoes in Southwest Mississippi and although tornadoes are not in the forecast as of Thursday morning, Feb. 19, the National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Marginal Risk, or a Level 1 warning out of a possible Level 5, for severe weather in parts of Mississippi on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The area includes parts of North Mississippi and then runs south and east to include Hattiesburg. The National Weather Service is warning of isolated severe storms and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. As of Thursday morning, Feb. 19, no severe weather warning was issued for the Jackson area…
