Madison’s Metro Transit plans to buy 16 hybrid buses, cut emissions

Metro Transit expects to solicit proposals for a set of new hybrid buses this year with funding from a federal grant.

Metro received $17.4 million from the Federal Transit Administration’s Low or No Emission Grant Program last year to lower emissions within the fleet by replacing existing diesel buses.

The agency expects it can purchase 16 hybrid 40-foot vehicles, along with additional diagnostic tools, parts, equipment and workforce development. Once acquired, the buses would serve Metro’s local, fixed routes…
