Bixby Public Schools outline walkout response, stressing neutrality and safety on campus

BIXBY, OKLA. (KTUL) — As students across the state participate in walkouts protesting ICE, Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Lydia Wilson sent a message to families and staff outlining how the district will respond if a walkout happens.

Wilson said the district respects First Amendment rights but remains neutral, adding that staff members will not promote nor discourage student expression. She said the district’s role is to keep school operations running as smoothly as possible.

The message also addressed attendance rules. Wilson said participating in a walkout or leaving campus without permission will be treated as an unexcused absence, and that standard attendance policies will apply. Parents will continue to receive automated attendance notifications, she said, and families can contact the school attendance office to verify a student’s absence.
