GAGE PARK — Amazon is moving forward with plans to demolish the former Central Steel plant and turn the site into its newest warehouse, but some neighbors aren’t on board.
Amazon representatives, project officials and city leaders met with neighbors Tuesday to unveil the company’s plans for the former Central Steel & Wire Plant, 3000 W. 51st St., which Amazon bought in 2021 for $35 million.
The e-commerce giant aims to open a warehouse on the site in late 2027 in time for the holiday season, said Kyle DeGuilio, the economic policy manager for Amazon’s midwestern division.
