“Prolonged & violent assault” Man sentenced to 25 years to life for motel murder

Schenectady, NY (WRGB) — A Schenectady County judge has sentenced a 41-year-old man to 25 years to life in state prison for the 2024 killing of a woman inside a motel room, prosecutors announced.

Corydon Carlton received the sentence from Judge Matthew Sypniewski after a jury found him guilty Dec. 9, 2025, of second-degree murder, a class A-I violent felony, in the death of Renee Stratton.

According to prosecutors, the killing occurred during the early morning hours of July 21, 2024, inside a room at the Imperial Motel. Surveillance video and witness testimony showed Carlton and Stratton were together in the room for about three hours.
