Man pleads no contest to drunkenly hitting wife with truck, killing her

ANN ARBOR, MI – A man who was previously charged with murder in the death of his wife has pleaded no contest to a different charge.

Nicholas Elka, 39, pleaded no contest to operating while intoxicated causing death for running over his wife with a truck in 2024, according to court records. He pleaded on Feb. 3 before Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Carol Kuhnke, canceling a jury trial set for early next month.

Elka had his previous charge of open murder dismissed in March 2025 after further investigation revealed the prosecutorโ€™s office could not prove Elka intended to strike his wife…
