NEXTON, S.C. (Palmetto Life) — Cielo Mexican Kitchen has opened in Nexton, bringing traditional Mexican cuisine from Jalisco to the Lowcountry.
The restaurant was founded by local Charleston area restaurateurs originally from Jalisco, Mexico, the birthplace of tequila, birria and other Mexican culinary traditions. Co-founder Antonio, who planned the restaurant’s design and concept, passed away before the opening. His partner Yesenia followed through with his vision to create the restaurant.
“Cielo is heaven,” Yesenia said, explaining the restaurant’s name. “This was all his idea. He picked the furniture out. He actually planned pretty much all of it. And I just followed through with his vision.”
