EASLEY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Pickens County Library System will cancel dozens of youth programs starting Feb. 23, after a board voted to implement a new collections policy that restricts certain content for minors.

The Board of Trustees approved the change in a 5-2 vote on Feb. 12.
The updated rules include bans on adult nudity, graphic sexual content and other material considered vulgar for minors, following a rule in the state budget. To comply with the policy, library staff must review around 86,000 books.
The library staff must shift their focus to reviewing materials in the youth collection across the system. Staff are required to read each book in its entirety to ensure compliance with the new standards…
