Odds increasing for widespread impactful snowfall between Sunday and Monday

Just when you thought we might have turned a corner towards spring with the warmer temperatures and rain we’ve recently experienced, more accumulating snow seems to be in the cards over the weekend!

Saturday will be fine as has often been the case with these weekend storms, and it actually should be a fairly decent day with some sun, light breezes, and high temperatures well into the 40s. It’s Sunday when things go downhill, and this snowstorm could linger into at least early Monday as well.

Now granted, there are still some big differences with the various forecast model guidance products and that means our forecast is highly subject to change, and probably will change, at some point. But regardless, we want to give you our best take on everything as it stands right now so you can start to plan accordingly over the weekend.

We’ll be tracking an area of low pressure that will move off the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic coastline Saturday night into Sunday, then strengthening as it moves out to sea by late Sunday into Monday. The exact track and strength of the storm remain unclear at this time and this leads to lower confidence in expected snowfall amounts. Some model guidance suggests a storm that is quite strong and very close to the Mid-Atlantic coast which would lead to heavier snow and greater snowfall accumulations. Other guidance however is much weaker with the storm and has it further off the coast meaning lighter snowfall amounts with even precipitation potentially starting as rain…
