CLAYTON — Police Chief Greg Tart confirmed that the victim of a train fatality earlier this week has been identified as Rodney Eric Swan, 59, of Wake Forest. Swan was struck and killed by Amtrak Train 79 while it traveled northbound toward Raleigh, with a final destination of Charlotte.
The collision occurred Tuesday around 6 p.m. near Stallings Street.
Police said Swan’s 2014 Dodge Ram pickup was found parked on West Front Street near a cemetery. “Based on our investigation — to include interviews, video and processing of the scene — Swan parked his truck and walked out onto the railroad tracks as the train was approaching, and intentionally allowed himself to be struck,” Tart said…
