SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — On Wednesday, Sandoval County held an official groundbreaking ceremony for their upcoming animal resource center. The new shelter is being built to help take pressure off of the overcrowded animal shelter in Sandoval County.
The current shelter has had plans to expand for years, but the expansion was delayed due to COVID and the lack of funding. The new resource center will be a massive upgrade that is much needed for the animals. “We will initially when we open be able to handle 50 to 60 dogs, 12 to 20 cats at a time,” said County Commissioner Katherine Brunch. “There will be kennels, offices, play space, quarantine space, and a dog park for Sandoval County residents and visitors.”
The center has received $8.7 million in funding for the project. The resource center is scheduled to open by next year…
