Alabama man waives preliminary hearing in aggravated animal cruelty case

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — A 65-year-old Lee County man charged with 16 felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Mose Washington Jr., 65, of Opelika, appeared in court February 18 for a docket call. During the hearing, Washington waived his right to a preliminary hearing. After doing so, he exited the courtroom with his attorney and declined to comment to WRBL News 3 on the ongoing case.

Washington is charged with 16 counts of aggravated animal cruelty, a Class C felony. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted January 24 around 7:23 p.m. regarding possible animal cruelty in the 1700 block of Lee Road 400 in the Beauregard community. When deputies arrived, they found approximately 16 dogs that appeared malnourished and without access to food or water…
