Man tied to fatal beating at town square jailed after hawking stolen property on Facebook

A man tied to a fatal beating in 2016 at Spanish Springs Towns Square that claimed a man’s life has been jailed after allegedly hawking stolen property on Facebook.

Nicholas Metcalfe, 28, of Ocala, was booked this week at the Marion County Jail on charges of theft, dealing in stolen property and trespassing.

He has been arrested in the theft of trailer ramps from Burynzz Classic Cars in Ocala. Metcalfe became a suspect after an employee of the business discovered that the missing ramps were being offered for sale on Facebook, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Metcalfe had been sentenced to six months probation in the 2016 death of 26-year-old Austin Stevens, who worked at McCall’s Tavern at Spanish Springs Town Square, the scene of the fatal encounter. Metcalfe ended up pleading no contest to a charge of battery which had been reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. After the 2016 altercation at town square, Stevens was initially taken to The Villages Regional Hospital, but was soon transferred to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he died of injuries suffered to the head.
