Gainesville teenager pleads guilty to firearm possession with removed serial number

GAINESVILLE, Florida — Devon Oliver, an 18-year-old from Gainesville, has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with a removed serial number, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

Court documents reveal that on October 22, 2025, Oliver was riding an electric scooter with a concealed firearm in his waistband. When law enforcement attempted to detain him for a traffic violation, he fled on foot, discarding the firearm in the bushes of an apartment complex. The firearm, recovered by law enforcement, had an extended magazine loaded with 22 rounds of ammunition, and its serial number had been removed. Oliver was later arrested while hiding in a stairwell and admitted to discarding the firearm while fleeing.
