Potter County law enforcement is warning those planning to go to a big annual off-road event this weekend that the fire danger in the area persists.
“We are aware that this coming weekend is the annual non-sanctioned Sand Drags event at the Canadian River north of Amarillo,” the Potter County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Due to ongoing wildfire activity in the area, the Potter County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to fully understand the current conditions before attending the situation is VERY FLUID and can change at ANY GIVE MINUTE.”
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service fire map, the Lavender Fire remains active at about 18,423 acres and is approximately 50% contained in Potter and Oldham counties.
