George West High School mock trial team advances to state for third straight year

George West High School earned first place at the regional mock trial competition in Corpus Christi earlier this month, advancing to the state tournament for the third consecutive year. Out of more than 170 teams statewide, only 25 teams advance to state competition, which will be held March 6-7 in Dallas.

The students competed in Region 2, which includes Corpus Christi and the surrounding area. “In the regional competition, only the first-place team moves on, which makes this victory especially meaningful to us,” said Advisor Brandi McClendon.

In addition to the team’s advancement, several students received individual honors. Cora Barter earned a scholarship for Best Advocate, while Ray Martin received a scholarship for Third Best Advocate, recognizing their courtroom skill and professionalism…
